A native of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Joanne Dubbs Ball has lived in the Farmington Valley area of Connecticut for most of her adult life. Spending her childhood and teenage years just a few blocks from four of Lancaster's theatres during those "golden years," she acquired a fascination with films and their stars that continues today. Combining this interest in movies with her avocation as a collector of costume jewelry from the same era was , according to the author, a "match made in heaven;" making Jewelry of the Stars is a natural follow-up to her previous book, Costume Jewelers: The Golden Age of Design (Schiffer, 1990.) A free-lance writer and member of the Society of Jewelry Historians, Mrs. Ball continues to research material in related areas of jewelry and design.
