Dennis P. Chapman graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point. After graduation, he was commissioned in the infantry and assigned to 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry, 10th Mountain Division, at Fort Drum, New York. While there, he participated in disaster relief operations in Homestead, Florida, following the devastating Category 5 Hurricane Andrew of August 1992. Shortly thereafter, he deployed with his battalion for humanitarian relief operations in Somalia as part of Operation Restore Hope in 1992 and 1993. Chapman went on to command an infantry company with the Michigan Army National Guard and later served as chief of the military advisory team assigned to the Kurdish 3rd Brigade, 4th Division, Iraqi Army, during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Chapman holds a juris doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School and practices law in Virginia.
